Ellen and Walker under Los Angeles Aquaduct, Owens Valley, CA, 1992

We have many spent years following water in the West. This image was made while tracing the route of the Los Angeles Aquaduct with our son Walker when he was a young child. Armed conflicts occurred over water in the Owens Valley in the 1920s. Parts of this Aquaduct were blown up by outraged farmers who saw their livelihoods threatened by the City of Los Angeles acquiring the Valleys water rights. Eventually, the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power won this water war. Today, there is a very large pipe carrying vast amounts of water through a very dry Owens Valley.
