Site of former J.C. Boyle Dam, Klamath River, OR, 2025

The deconstruction of the J.C. Boyle Dam near Klamath Falls, OR began in May, 2024. The removal of all four large dams on the Klamath aimed to restore fish passage, improve water quality, and reduce waster temperatures, ultimately benefiting the entire Klamath River Basin ecosystem. Pockets of local resistance still exist upstream here in the ranching and farming communities of Oregon. Time will tell if and when the benefits of the dam removal will be perceived here.
