Hope for the environmental restoration of this region was just beginning in 2005. New developments such as this were starting to bring the possibility of an economic revival through eco-tourism to this devastated part of northern Mexico. Unfortunately, not long after I made this photograph, a sharp increase in drug smuggling and refugee traffic began to flow right through this area.
